Oneway
Oneway
A wall-less puzzle game about paths, resources, and finding the better route.
What if a maze had no walls?
In Oneway, the maze is built from tiles connected by directed paths. You are free to move only along those connections, and reaching the goal is not always as simple as finding a route from A to B.
The game gradually introduces new rules that change how you approach the map:
- Directed connections — not every route can be taken in both directions.
- Energy — certain mechanisms require you to manage shared energy resources.
- Energy buttons — interact with them to gain energy.
- Energy gates — pass through them only when you have enough energy.
- Step counting — You need to find the perfect solution.
- Undo & Restart — experiment freely and recover from mistakes.
Current Build
This early playtest build contains:
Chapter 1 — Learning the Maze.5 levels focused on movement, direction, routes, goals, and optimization.
Chapter 2 — Energy. 11 levels introducing energy, energy gates, buttons, and energy decay.
16 handcrafted levels in total.
The game currently supports these languages:
- Simplified Chinese
- Traditional Chinese (Some vocabulary usages may be wrong)
- English
Besides, the game supports light/dark mode.
How can you help me make this game better:
This is an early build, and I am mainly looking for feedback on the core puzzle design.
In particular:
- Is the basic movement and interaction easy to understand?
- Do the levels teach their mechanics naturally without too much explanation?
- At what point does the game start to feel genuinely puzzle-like rather than simply maze-like?
- Is optimizing your number of steps interesting enough to make you replay a level?
- Which levels feel too easy, too difficult, or unclear?
There are intentionally no large amounts of content or advanced mechanics in this build yet. I want to make sure the fundamental rules are enjoyable before expanding the game further.
Known issues
- Light/dark mode can only be manually toggled on the web platform.
- FPS low on Safari.
Controls
- Move: On-screen controls / WASD
- Interact: On-screen interaction button / Space
- Undo: Undo button / Z
- Restart: Restart button / R
- Temporarily hide the character: Hide button / Q
This is an experimental indie project made with Godot.
Thank you for playing, and especially for any feedback on the puzzle design.
